The suffix To, in Ewe dialect means Mountain. So the right name of this tourism centre is either Mountain Afadja or Afadjato. Both will be used interchangeably here. So once the word ‘To’ comes meaning it’s wrong to say Mountain Afadjato.
Afadjato is the highest mountain in Ghana. It is situated in the Agumatsa Range close to Gbledi Gborgame and Liati Wote that is Afadjato South District and Hohoe Municipality, in the Volta Region.
The mountain is close to Ghana-Togo border and Volta lake on the east of Ghana. Mountain Afadja stands at an elevation of 2,904ft thus, 885metres tall. The tourist attraction has a six unit rustic guesthouse with showers and water closet. Food and drinks are available for tourists.
Mountain Afadja is open to visitors from 8:00 to 17:00 GMT. Close to Afadjato is Tagbo Falls, Wli Falls (the highest in West Africa) and Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. The mountain is about 178 kilometers northeast of Accra and same distance northwest of Lome.
Mountain Afadja is derived from the Ewe word “Avadzeto” which is translated “at war with the bush”.
