As we always do, Innotour take you on tour in one of the exciting countries in Africa.
In the year 1462, Portuguese explorers established contact with the people of Liberia. They named the area they were occupying as Costa da Pimenta in English, meaning Pepper Coast, or Grain Coast, as a result of how melegueta pepper were there abundantly.
On July 26, 1847, Liberia gained independence from their colonial masters, The United States, becoming the oldest and the first African country to free themselves from colonial rule, as they set the pace for the rest of African countries to follow.
Back to the attractions and fine places to visit, with the population of 5,418,377 people as updated by worldometer in July 2023.
Liberia can boast as one of the countries endowed with a lot of attractions.
One of these is, the famous Centennial Pavilion. In 1947, in order to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of their independence, the hall was built and situated on the inauguration spot for Liberia’s presidents.
Located at Ashmun Street in Monrovia the capital city of Liberia, the hall has a size of 44 by 63 feet, a capacity of 200 and with amenities such as kitchen, podium mic, Wi-Fi, VCR and TV, projector screen, wheel chair access, tables and chairs.
From our correspondent in Liberia, Charlesetta Winifred Askie, “the entrance of the Centennial Pavilion, tourists will see statue of two women standing opposite each other. The one in short dress is an indigenous, whilst the other in the long dress is a pioneer.
Also, inside the hall tourists will see the statue of President Joseph J Roberts who was elected as the first (1848-1856) and seventh (1872-1876) president of Liberia after independence. He was the first man of African descent to govern Liberia.
Inside the hall erected the statue of former President of Liberia, William V.S Tubman who was the 19th President in the history of the country. He served for 27 years (1944-1971).”

Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Rwanda Nicknamed, “ The Land Of a Thousand Mountains” is one of the exciting places for tourists to visit. Living up to its nickname, Rwanda serves as a home to several mountains ranges including the volcanic and misty Virunga.
One of the tourist attractions to talk about here is the popular Volcanoes National Park.
The Park covers 160km square and can be located in the Northwestern province of Rwanda in a small town called Musanze which was formerly known as Ruhengeri.
It shares border with Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo and also Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.
Volcanoes National Park is a habitat to the golden monkey, mountain gorilla and home for the primatologist dian.
Talking about the fauna, Mount Bisoke, African buffalo, spotted hyena, African Elephant, black-fronted duiker, Rwenzori Mountains and harnessed bushbuck are all reported to be in the park.
Records have it that there are 178 bird species in the park and also between 1760 t0 7040 population of bushbuck. Apparently, in the continent Africa, the park is said to be the oldest. In the year 1925, the park was first gazetted with the aim of protecting the gorillas from Poachers. The boarders of the park was extended further into Rwanda and into the Belgian Congo in 1929.
. In 1992, during the Rwandan Civil War, the Volcanoes National Park was used as a battlefield where the park headquarters was attacked. Due to that all tourists’ activities were halted immediately.
These disturbances caused the park to close down to tourists for 7 years.
In 1999, when the area was safe and under control, tourists’ activities resumed again.
In terms of flora, due to the large altitudinal range within the park, the vegetation varies considerably. Tourists would find hugenia-hypericum forest which covers about 30% of the park.
There are Neoboutonia forest, Arundinaria alpina forest, and also Montane forest, which has been lost to agriculture.
According to announcement made by the Government of Rwanda in 2022, there are plans to expand the park from 13,000 hectares to 23,000 hectares. Estimated 6,260 hectares will be used to create a buffer zone. This buffer zone will be between the national park and its flora and fauna and the surrounding human communities.

Uganda, also, known as the Pearl of Africa, has been the center of many tourist attractions in Africa. For tourists, researchers, scientists, and historians to see African Mountain Gorillas, Bwindi National Park in Uganda is the recommended destination.
In the year 1942, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was officially established and was then known as Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Reserve. Fifty (50) years later, thus in 1992, the Reserve was then upgraded to a national park, hence the change of name to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The Bwindi hosts 120 mammals species, 348 birds species, 27 frog species, and 220 butterfly species. Though being noted for containing gorillas, forest’s birds such as handsome francolins, black bee-eaters, great blue turacos, African green broadbills, African black ducks, black-billed turacos and cassin’s grey flycatchers can also be found in the forest. Moreover, red-tailed monkeys forest elephants, blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, chimpanzees, l’hoests monkeys and yellow-backed duikers are all hosted in the forest.
In the Kanungu District, south-western Uganda, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is located.
Inhabited by many endangered species, almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population (over 340) is found in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, being one the most diverse forests in Africa, also, has more than 100 species of ferns and more than 160 species of trees.
The forest was designated in 1994. It has an area of 128 sq ml and its governing body is National Environment Management Authority of Uganda (NEMA).

Simien Mountains National Park-Ethiopia
One of the most tourist attractions in Ethiopia is the popular Simien Mountains National Park. Situated in the Gonder Zone of the Amhara Region, the Simien Mountains National park is regarded as the largest in Ethiopia. The park was established in the year 1969 and its nearest city is Debarq and Mekane Berhan. It has covered an area of 85 sq ml.
A s a home to a number of endangered species tourists would find, a cat, a wild goat, the gelada baboon and the caracal, Ethiopian wolf and the walia ibex, the bearded vulture, menelik’s bushbuck and more at the park. The park has a total of 21 large mammal species in population living within its boundaries. It is a home to 400 species of birds.
The park has a very beautiful vegetation mixed with wilderness forests, alpine vegetation and African alpine forests. African redwood, waterberry, Abyssunian rose, African olive, cocona and stinging nettle are some of the interesting things tourists would find at the park. Montane savannah and tree health, a lady’s mantle, giant lobella, everlasting, a moss, and yellow primrose are the high altitude areas of the park. The Montane forest, the Afroalpine and the and the SubAfroalpine or Ericaceous Belt are the three sections that the vegetation throughout the park is divided.

Seychelles has a population of little above 100,000 people. Though Seychelles is the country with the lowest population in Africa, the country can boast of having one of the best tourism centers in Africa. The Republic of Seychelles is an islands Situated in the Indian Ocean, southeast of mainland Eastern Africa.

The Mambilla Plateau,Taraba State, Nigeria
The Mambilla Plateau is the highest plateau in Nigeria and located in the Taraba State of Nigeria in the region of Nigeria’s Eastern Jut into Cameroon.
There are villages that are located on the hills and are at least 1,828metres above sea level. It has an elevation of 7,936FT and an area of 3,625sq ml.
As the coolest region in Nigeria, the plateau has comparatively cold daytime temperatures hardly ever over 25degrees celcius. During daytime there are strong winds and the raining season starts from mid-March till the end of November. The Mambilla Plateau records rainfall annually exceeding 1850 millimetres.
Though not well developed, the Mambilla plateau is the only region in Nigeria that grows tea plant on a large scale. It also has a lot of tea farms. The Plateau serves as a home to the Gashaka Gumti National Park. The Gashaka National Park is the largest park in Nigeria. Touring the Mambilla Plateau, tourists will also see Ngel Nyaki Forest Reserve where one can find endangered West/Central African plant and animal in these man made forests. Tourists will also find eucalyptus tree, which is the dominant tree in the Ngel Nyaki Forest Reserve.
With other Nigerian government tree planting program, in 1906-1915, during the German administration of the Cameroons the German colonialists planted the man-made forest.

Kasbah of the Udayas, Rabat, Morocco
Not only as the capital city of Morocco but Rabat is regarded as one of the top Morocco tourist attraction centres. One of these is the Kasbah of the Udayas. Also, referred to as, the Oudaya Kasbah the Kasbah of the Udayas remains one of the spectacular tourist attractions in Morocco. On a hill at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River is where one can locate the Kasbah of the Udayas opposite the city of Sale in Morocco.
The Kasbah of the Udayas was built in the 12th century. The Kasbah was demolished many times but was rebuilt. Inside the Kasbah, one could see Rabat oldest mosque called the Old Mosque. One would also see the Rue Jamaa, which is the main street and runs straight through the Kasbah to the
Semaphore platform, and more.
